Most of the time, it is the Sozni Kari that is done over a Pashmina shawl because of its delicate texture and finesse. Since the underlying base is delicate as well, Sozni Kari is considered the most harmless embroidery of all.
What is Sozni Kari: Sozni embroidery, or Sozni Kari, is a fine needlework carried upon the delicate Pashmina shawl to infuse traditional motifs in beautiful colours over a plain base. Locally known as sicznikeam (needlework), Sozni embroidery is considered one of the most sophisticated forms of embroidery in Kashmir valley, with no parallel anywhere in the world. This exceptionally fine, gossamer, and artistic needlework needs the full attention and expert skill of an artisan who spends months, sometimes years, together to complete one single piece.
Be it weaving or embroidering the delicate Pashmina shawl, both need to be done carefully with the utmost precision. When a Pashmina shawl is chosen for Sozni embroidery, there are a few steps to be followed.
Choosing a Naqsh: A finely carved walnut wood block acts as a stamp, to lay the base for the design over the shawl. Blocks are different for borders and the centre of a shawl. It takes a lot of time to choose from among a hundred such blocks that have been carved by master walnut woodcarvers.
Stamping the shawl: An expert craftsman carefully places the chosen block, dipped in ink, over the shawl in the desired place.Â
Embroidering: This imprinted shawl is sent to embroidery experts, who work over the imprints with fine, colourful threads. Colors are decided simultaneously with the embroidery process. If a colour doesn't produce the desired effect, it can be undone to use another shade.

We appreciate that you expect the finest quality of Pashmina from us. So we follow a stringent quality-testing approach on every single piece that we produce. Our Pashminas go through an inflexible testing procedure at the Craft Development Institute (CDI) of Srinagar, the only fully-focused Pashmina lab in India. After testing our Pashminas come with lab reports, fibre tests, name of product and artisan and product life and durability.
We guarantee the purity and authenticity of our products. We are 100% sure about our products being handwoven from pure Cashmere yarn. If you are not satisfied with the product, or if it is proven that any of our claims are false, you can easily return it to us with a full refund.
