Bringing the Artisans as partners to our business and as our vision tied with their growth we, at Pashmina.com, give back 5% of our proceeds towards the welfare, education and upliftment of the children and the women of their families and overall communities.
While your pashmina may just be a regal accessory to you. it’s bread and butter for a family in Kashmir.
It’s a father’s promise of bringing food for his children; a mother’s hope for the family’s future; a child’s only way to ensure that he or she gets a chance to continue schooling for one more season.
It is the only source of livlihood for these poor families living in the rural parts of the Kashmir Valley.
What started with a simple idea—to empower artisans who were on the verge of poverty to use their artistic skills to make a living and support their families—has become a full-fledged program that puts these people in charge of their own lives.
It gives them a hope that their hard work will fetch them enough to keep their homes running.
Pashmina.com’s statement hand-woven collection is for the fashion connoisseurs who are conscious shoppers and care for the environment and the artisans.
The pieces are hand woven on wooden looms and crafted by the artisans by hand-a labour of love and art woven into one.
A single stole takes about a week, while complex patterns may take about a year to be completed.
We are in this industry to initiate a change somewhere.
Our current program focuses on empowerment of women and daughters of these families, who are not employed and have no source of income.
We facilitate their access to education, training and vocational studies so that they can become employable and contribute to the income- building initiative that Kashmir so desperately needs.
