Why we Love it

Evocative of several stories, several memories, a few places, a few colours, and a bundle of emotions - that is what the shawl is made of. Fresh blossoms picked from the Mughal gardens of Kashmir, as they flourish in the onset of spring, and scattered all over the gossamer Cashmere base of this Pashmina shawl. Soaked in a million shades, the shawl experiences the regal Kani hand weave, which uses traditional wooden handlooms to cover the empty inches up with wooden spokes. The floral patterns flow through the shawl like music and the rhythm delights every onlooker and the wearer alike.

The Exquisite Craftsmanship

Have you ever witnessed a Kashmiri bride on her main day? Everything is perfect. Her dress, her jewellery, her makeup and accessories, each part of her get-up is the best version of itself. But there is something that surpasses everything the bride owns. It is a Kani Pashmina shawl which she is wrapped in before starting the journey of her new life.

What is Kani?

'Kani' in the local language means 'small wooden sticks' or 'bobbins'. It is these sticks around which colourful threads are wound and woven together with the delicate fibres of pure Pashm. But the makers have to go through a step by step process.

Setting the code: Once the handloom is set, the taalim (design or a code according to which the shawl is to be woven), is handed over to the weaver who has to weave the shawl according to this code.

Introducing the Kanis: Next, a Pashmina shawl, with warps and wefts, is loaded on the loom, where the length of each weft thread is first wound around a Kani. The weaving starts by inserting this Kani weft over and under the adjacent warp.

Weaving with Kanis: All the colourful Kanis are arranged as per the code of the shawl. Each Kani is used one at a time in the shawl, and as soon as the design demands another colour, the two Kanis are joined together by interlocking.

For a three feet wide length, around 400 Kani sticks are to be used and depending upon the design and complexity of a Kani shawl, it takes the artisan 1 day to complete just one inch, and 3 to 36 months to complete the entire piece.

This labour intensive work can thus stretch up to years together and finally what we get is nothing less than a piece of marvel.

Guaranteed Quality

We appreciate that you expect the finest quality of Pashmina from us. So we follow a stringent quality-testing approach on every single piece that we produce. Our Pashminas go through an inflexible testing procedure at the Craft Development Institute (CDI) of Srinagar, the only fully-focused Pashmina lab in India. After testing our Pashminas come with lab reports, fibre tests, name of product and artisan and product life and durability.

We guarantee the purity and authenticity of our products. We are 100% sure about our products being handwoven from pure Cashmere yarn. If you are not satisfied with the product, or if it is proven that any of our claims are false, you can easily return it to us with a full refund.

Guaranteed Quality
Fair Trade & Sustainable

In the modern era where fast fashion has become a whirring concept, people have compromised with low quality, instant production, and accepted degradation that it causes to the environment. To lower the harmful impact of fast fashion fads on the planet, Pashmina.com produces environment friendly, sustainable wraps that last for generations. Our products are made from natural Cashmere fibre, dyed with nontoxic dyes and use water conservation methods for the final wash.

In addition to taking care of the environment, Pashmina.com makes sure that products are handcrafted by artisans who use traditional artisan skills and organic Cashmere yarn to produce ethereal pieces. As a mark of honour and a token of gratitude, we donate 5% of our proceeds to the artisan community to improve their livelihood and standards of living.
